We love nothing more than discovering cool chicks with unreal style, and this month we entered 2017 with US based American fashion blogger, Maddi McFarland, in mind. We got to know Maddi a little more by asking her a few questions, find out what inspires this blogger, and read all about her tips and advice!
For those that don’t know, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and where you grew up?
My name is Madison but anyone who really knows me calls me Maddi. I am a loud mouth Sagittarius who loves to travel, read, and collect curiosities. I am from the small town of North Platte, Nebraska. I grew up on a ranch outside of town.
Where do you spend most of your time now?
I spend most of my time in Nebraska’s state capital where I attend college at UNL for Fashion Design. I have a little apartment with two roommates. I live in between my place and my boyfriend’s apartment. My current situation is very temporary and often I feel like a drifter.
When did you start blogging?
I started blogging right after I graduated high school at 18. I ran out of excuses to tell my parents as to why I was buying these outfits that I had nowhere to wear, so I started a blog and called it my “investment.”
What does a day in the life of yourself look like?
Most days are very uneventful for me. I wake up around 7-8 am for my college classes, some days I work at the campus library in between my courses. Then I go home and make dinner with my boyfriend, Trey. Wash, rinse, repeat and that’s my week! But my weekends are always filled with new people and adventures. I love the nightlife, so its not unusual for my fellow fashion student friends and I to get dressed up in something experimental to go downtown and dance like animals.
We love your style! Who or what inspires your amazing outfit choices?
I’m am very inspired by all things unusual and alternative. I find “creepy” and “ugly” fashion to be my favorite. I am always influenced by nature and it’s way of healing. I have a large holistic medicine cabinet, an assortment of essential oils, a modest crystal collection, and a library of books on nontraditional healthcare. People who inspire me are Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, Audrey Kitching, Valfre, Karl Lagerfeld, and Alessandro Michele.
Any advice for other up and coming fashion bloggers out there?
Stay true to your own personal style and never compare yourself to the hundreds of other bloggers out there. Your grind is your own and it’s the differences that make your style special.
What are three things you can’t live without?
My cellphone has to be first, I’m a very busy individual and portability is everything to me. Secondly, I could literally live without probiotics but I’d be a sad, sickly Maddi. But most important of all, I can’t go without a bathtub. Soaking in bubbles might be my one true love.
In 5 years, where do you see yourself?
Hopefully, I will have moved to one of the coast to put use to my Fashion Design degree. I will still blog, but I would also travel much more. I would also love to be financially stable, because I can’t be a starving artist forever.
What does being ’stylish’ mean to you?
To me “style” is much more personal than “fashion.” Style lives through the trends, the seasons, the years of conspicuous consumption. A style is an identity, it’s a subculture, and it’s defiant of all social rules.
