Want to keep your trainers looking like they’re forever fresh out the box? Here are 5 top tips on how you can achieve just that.
1. Purchase a Tin of Shoe Protector Spray
First off, trainers don’t come cheap, so you will more than likely want to look after them. Invest in a decent repellent spray. This essentially works by covering your shoes in an invisible, optically clear protective barrier, which repels most liquids and it also prevents them long-lasting stains and dirt from ruining the appearance of your trainers. To use effectively, carefully apply the spray by following the product’s directions, then leave your trainers untouched for around 24 hours. Most bottles will contain enough product to protect two pairs of shoes. You can find 10 of the best sprays by clicking here.
2. Use The Correct Brush
In case you end up getting your kicks all messy, you’re going to need a soft-bristled brush. If they end up caked in mud, this step acts to remove any top layer of dirt and dust that would have otherwise embedded itself deeper into the material and thus making cleaning more difficult. Always make sure it’s the right brush for the right kind of shoe. If you want to be precise, you’ll need different ones for suede, knit, leather or mesh fabrics. 3. Touch Up The Scuffs
Let’s face it, eventually, we will scuff up our trainers, but fear not! If your trainers get scuffed, use a trainer whitener such as Kiwi Sports Trainer Whitener to cover the scratches. You’ll have to reapply this every so often but hey ho, they’ll still look good!
4. Demolish Tough Stains
If you notice a stain, and you’ve tried wiping it off but it’s still there, don’t give up! Simply go and raid your kitchen cupboard, take a cloth and dip it in some vinegar and rub gently to remove those stains. Voilà! It’s as simple as that and it really does work!
5. Handwash All The Way
When it comes to cleaning them in general, always use lukewarm or cold water. Stay away from the washing machine at all costs! Using hot water can actually damage the material, and when your shoes dry they may lose their shape. As tempting as it is, to stick them in a washing machine – the temperature of the water can potentially damage the shoe’s structure, the pressure from the washing machine may also discolour the fabric and ruin the stitching.
